AWS DevOps Competency Revalidated - Why It Matters for Your Business

Written by Aaron Walker | Jun 3, 2026 4:50:36 PM

Back in 2017, we were among the first AWS partners in the world to achieve the AWS DevOps Competency. At the time, DevOps was still a frontier - a blend of culture, tooling and automation that most organisations were just beginning to explore.

A lot has changed since then.

DevOps is no longer a buzzword. It's a baseline. Almost every technology team is doing some form of it - CI/CD pipelines, containerisation, infrastructure-as-code. The tools are more accessible, the frameworks more mature and the talent pool deeper than ever.

So why did we put ourselves through the full AWS competency assessment again, when we didn't have to?

Because being good at DevOps in 2017 is not the same as being good at DevOps today - and we wanted to prove the difference.

What the reassessment actually involved

The AWS DevOps Competency assessment isn't a formality. It examines delivery capability, automation maturity, operational governance, security practices and real customer outcomes - backed by evidence, not slide decks.

We didn't shortcut anything. We went through the complete validation process and came out the other side with AWS's confirmation that our approach to cloud operations, DevOps delivery, and operational governance remains ahead of much of the market.

That's not us saying it. That's AWS saying it.

Tools are the easy part

Here's what most DevOps conversations miss: the tooling was never the hard part.

Deploying a CI/CD pipeline or setting up Terraform isn't what separates teams that succeed with DevOps from teams that struggle. What makes the difference is the organisational change - the shift in how teams collaborate, how releases are owned, how risk is managed and how security gets embedded from the start rather than bolted on at the end.

We've spent more than a decade helping businesses navigate not just the technical implementation, but the mindset and cultural transformation that makes it stick. That depth of experience is is exactly what the AWS reassessment validated.

DevOps as a Service: all the outcomes, none of the overhead

Achieving and maintaining DevOps maturity takes sustained effort - skilled engineers, continuous tooling investment, evolving security practices and operational discipline that compounds over time.

That's why we built DevOps as a Service: a managed offering that puts our certified expertise to work alongside your team - handling CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure management, deployment automation, monitoring and security, all for a fixed monthly fee.

The results speak for themselves. Clients like Attaché went from quarterly releases to deploying every day -  a 65x increase in deployment frequency, with zero planned outages. They get 24/7 proactive support and an expert team that integrates with their development team.

Whether you're modernising a legacy environment, scaling a growing product, or making sure your AWS infrastructure is ready for AI workloads - we handle the engineering so your team can focus on building product, not managing infrastructure.
